Lauren Lane

I have never been the type to write a testimonial for anyone, but after my experiences with Dr. Cheryl Miller, I feel compelled to do so.

I met Dr. Miller several years ago when I was searching for a Chiropractor to look into the health of my then 2-year-old daughter Lauren.  Lauren had always walked a bit strange from her first steps as a child.  We inquired with at least 3 pediatricians about her walking and posture, and were always told that she would grow out of it... Ok, so we had no reason not to believe them. After moving from Chicago, Il to Evergreen, CO, I noticed Lauren's posture and walking was getting worse.  It was to the point she would no longer walk down the stairs, but sit down and slide.  This was alarming considering she was turning 3 and was resorting back to "baby steps" - crawling and scotting instead of walking.  Frustrated from the lack of personal attention we were receiving from pediatricians, I started looking for a Chiropractor to look at Lauren's legs, since the MD's seemed to be overwhelmed with coughs and cold and always gave us the same old, "She'll grow out of it... NEXT patient please!" diagnosis.

Knowing Lauren and how sensitive and fragile she is, I sought out a Chiropractor that would be gentle as well as child friendly.  I figured it may take a few tries with different Chiroprators until we would find the tirhg fit for Lauren.  After doing some phone interviews with local Chiropractors in Denver and in the Foothills, I decided we would try Dr. Cheryl Miller.

We went for our first visit and Dr. Miller took the time to get to know Lauren by playing with her, and literally getting down on the floor with her and playing.  This went on for at least 45 minutes until Lauren felt comfortable with Dr. Miller touching her.  Dr. Miller also interviewed myself and my wife for the same amount of time.  Before any treatment was given, Dr. Miller had a thorough understanding of the personality of Lauren, and the full history of her symptoms.

Dr. Miller then examined Lauren and made some very gentle adjustments to her.  Lauren literally sighed with relief loudly when Dr. Miller made the adjustments to her.  My wife and I were almost in tears when Dr. Miller was done with Lauren's first appointment.  You could see on Lauren's face that she felt better.  We were so worried about Lauren, and what may possibly be wrong with her.  To see here stand with much improved posture and walk without a limp was nothing short of a miracle.

After several days, Lauren started to walk strange again so we continued with Dr. Miller and each time Lauren's condition improved.  After a few more visits Dr. Miller became concerned that the adjustments she was making were not making a lasting impact on Lauren.  She noticed even after adjustments to her hips and legs, that her left leg seemed longer than the other.  Dr. Miller sent us to get x-rays of Lauren's hips and bak.  Upon viewing Lauren's x-rays, Dr. Miller discovered Lauren had a problem with her left hip and socket.  She recommended we see a Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist to get another opinion.  As it turns out, Lauren was born with congenital hip dysplasia.  Her left hip and socket never properly developed from birth.  Keep in mind, we noticed this and brought it to the attention of several MDs over the years.  Thanks to Dr. Miller's diligence and experience, we finally had an explanation as to why Lauren had this problem.

We then consulted with the Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist about what course of action we should take.  As it turns out, Lauren underwent a total hip reconstruction, as well as a pelvic reconstruction at the Children's Hospital in Denver.  Lauren was confined to a full body cast for over 3 months and then a hip cast for another 3 months.  It was by far the most painful experience of all of our lives to see this little girl in such pain and confinement.  We stayed in constant contact with Dr. Miller throughout this ordeal, and she was a great resource of strength for us.

Dr. Miller was already planning on therapy and exercises to ensure when Lauren was released from her cast, she would recover with the hekp of Chiropractic therapy.  The MD at Children's Hospital told us it would take a year or more before Lauren would be done with extensive physical therapy and before she would even begin to walk correctly.  Dr. Miller took on the role as Lauren's therapist immediately after the MD gaver her permission to do so.  Lauren's recovery after her surgery was slow at first; she was very sore and stiff.  She could hardly move either leg without great discomfort.  Dr. Miller began to see Lauren at least once a week until Lauren was able to stretch and move her legs without pain.  Dr. Miller worked with Lauren continually until Lauren made a full recovery in less than half the time we were told by the MDs.  Dr. Miller's soft gentle approach to her recovery was awesome.  Lauren to this day can't wait to see "Dr. Millwwer" to get her adjustements and massage.

If this wasn't enough to tell you how awesome Dr. Miller is...                                                                      I can go on to my next story:

I had an accident at a local restaurant.  I fell backwards down 17 hard wood steps, I was knocked unconscious and rushed to the hospital.  After being diagnosed with a concussion and a separated left shoulder I was released and told by the ER MD that the huge lump on my left shoulder would never heal and I would have to live this way the rest of my life.  I could hardly move my shoulder at all.  I am in construction so this basically meant my career was over.  After being released from the hospital, I went to see my family doctor - thinking maybe the shoulder was broken and they released me anyway.  He took his own x-rays and told me the same thing...it is separated and there is nothing we can do about it.  My shoulder was permanently damaged.  Dr. Miller's office is literally located right behind my Family doctor so, with tears in my eyes from shoulder pain, as well as emotional pain, I walked into her office.

I did not have an appointment to see Dr. Miller that day, but thought I should tell her what had just happened to me.  She looked at my shoulder and immediately sent me back to her examination room.  She had a full schedule and people waiting.  Seeing the pain in my eyes, she still put me ahead of everyone.  She then sent my wife back over to my family doctor's office to retrieve the x-rays.  Upon reviewing them she did see the damage I had done to my shoulder.  But, she assured me that this was not permanent and it coudl be fixed.  She then made an adjustment to my shoulder that was quite painful.  Bit I immediately had use of my left shoulder again, and the large lump was gone!  I cried in pain for a while in her office, but I was also very relieved she had made the lump disappear.  And I had some use of my shoulder.  Dr. Miller had a waiting room with patients, but she took the time to talk to me and reassure me that I was going to be ok.

I then saw Dr. Miller at least 2-3 times a week for 2 months.  Every time she adjusted and massaged my shoulder it became stronger.  I now have recovered 100% from that injury because of the work, knowledge, and patience of Dr. Cheryl Miller.  MD's said it couldn't be done... Dr. Miller said "I can fix it".  And fix it she did!

Bottom line is...Dr. Miller is an outstanding Chiropractor!  But most important, she is a kind, loving, hones, and a compassionate soul.  And my family and I love her very much.  I recommend her to everyone I know, and will continue to do so.
